| Extraordinary 'Daisy' Veillette honored
Eight-year-old Marguerite Veillette stood out even among her many talented and attractive peers at a local performing arts academy. There are just some kids who, you meet them for a moment, and they leave an impression that lasts a lifetime. Daisy was one of those, said Randy Stewart, of Fort Wright, regional director of the John Robert Powers Academy in downtown Cincinnati. .

Is Anyone Telling The Truth?
So Heikki Kovalainen reckons he can beat Lewis Hamilton? And Ron says there'll be equal treatment at McLaren? Do PF1ers believe either statement... Got something to say? letters@planet-f1.com It Takes More Than Titles To Be Great Let's see. Lewis Hamilton is a great driver based on his wins and overall performance in his first season. Kimi Raikkonen won the Drivers' Championship after what, seven years? Michael Schumacher has won the Drivers' Championship seven times. So, if all that counts is Championships, Mssr. Hamilton hasn't won anything. Remember Sterling Moss? Arguably the greatest driver never to win the championship. Moss was a great driver in all categories of racing. Recall one of the few times he hopped in a Ferrari.
Culture by Ian Grey, Emily Flake, Violet Glaze, and Bret McCabe
Alas, it's that time of year again. February is when Sports Illustrated releases its annual swimsuit issue, replete with the usual oiled-up pimping of site-specific liposuction, freakish genetics, rhinoplasty, gym-rat body sculpting, faux-hot thousand-yard gazes, and chemically plumped lips puckered into automaton pouts. Viruslike, this Photoshopped Frankenstein aesthetic spreads to cinema and mass culture, and/or vice versa, reinforced by lad magazine spreads that make objectification sound progressive and reinforce an obsession for the deathly anorexic. Which helps explain how aerodynamic points-of-purchases such as the Jessicas Biel, Simpson, and Alba, talentless nip/tuck lab creation Fergie (frighteningly, No. 10 on Maxim's babe list), and America's No. 1 Victim, Elisha Cuthbert (Captivity, 24), are bestowed with a dumbed-down mantle of hotness.

An amazing experience: Visit Dihua Street prior to Chinese New Year
It's neither a glittering landmark of the city, nor a big shopping mall sporting the biggest brands available, yet Taipei's Dihua (}) Street becomes a coveted destination for tourists and shopaholics alike prior to Chinese New Year (CNY). That's when the otherwise quaint lane near Taipei Main Station turns into a brimming bazaar full of fascinating foodstuffs, clothes, candies and tons of other interesting paraphernalia associated with CNY celebrations. Every year, as I weave my way through the chaotic crowd gawking at the colorful assortments on display, some of which are quite overwhelming to my senses, I am reassured time and again that this will be one of the most delightful memories of my "Taipei Days" that I am really going to miss later. Admittedly, the free samplings of seemingly endless varieties of savory treats and yummy candies influence my opinion to a certain extent.
Can you explain why Sweden rates highest in Public Revenue from Taxes ...
D'Arcy McGee from Canada writes: Hey Ontario Man - that was indeed Harper's position. Remember when he declared it was a socialist plot? Next he took the position that GW existed but it wasn't necessarily caused by human activity. Then he took the position that, yes, it was caused by human activity but no need to panic, we'll deal with it in 50 years. Then he took the position that......well, it's hard to tell what his position is this week because it's a moving target, depending on how public opinion is moving. Whatever is politically expedient. Last shot for Elgin
Granger, Stewart and Armani Williams all said they still count that victory as the favorite moment of their careers. As juniors, the foursome helped the Maroons go 17-12 and end the program's streak of five straight losing seasons. But Armani Williams' left knee injury late in the season threw a wrench in Elgin's postseason plans as its campaign came to an end with a heartbreaking overtime loss to St. Charles East in a regional title game. The Maroons were dealt their toughest challenge when former coach Rob Brault was fired six days before the start of this season following his arrest for driving under the influence near Maroon Drive in the middle of an afternoon last November. Despite the distraction, Elgin started the campaign 5-1 under Sitter and appeared poised to make a run at the program's first 20-win season in seven years.
